FRYERN HILL, suburb of Chandler's Ford
No early spellings found, but clearly Middle English 'friars' hill'. The element is also in 'Fryern Court' in Fordingbridge (1541 'Freren courte') where the reference appears to be to the Cistercian monks of Beaulieu, whom it was a mistake to call 'friars'; but by 1541 nobody would have cared much.
